Golf Operations Manager, Radyr Golf Club

Radyr Golf Club is a private members’ golf club which was established in 1902 and has a rich his- tory its members are proud of. The Club currently has over 1000 members both playing and social with a specific emphasis on competition. The Golf Course is highly regarded with its Colt Design and the club has received a number of awards for its high level of service to both members and guests. The successful candidate will work with the Club Manager in the delivery of Club Operations. The role will have a specific focus on member competitions and guest administration and the person should therefore have golfing knowledge, experience of competition administration and a high level of customer service.


Key Skills Required:

  • Experience within the golfing environment and golf clubs in particular.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to members, staff and guests.

  • Ability to implement and create processes that enhance both member and visitor experi- ence.

  • Pro-active communication, both internally and externally, to drive member and guest re- cruitment.

  • Understanding of committee structures within a members golf club

  • An understanding or willingness to learn management of Club staff and the importance of leadership

  • Compliance of relevant laws and regulations, including but not limited to health & safety.

  • Ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and the smooth running of the Club and all its facilities throughout the golfing year.

  • Representing the Club effectively in its dealings with all third parties.

  • Deputising for the Club Manager is their absence

  • A can-do attitude and a person with a sense of humour who is willing to go above and be- yond. Very much ‘hands on’ attitude.

  • Willingness to learn and develop

  • Approachable, people’s person who puts customer service at the top of their attributes.

  • An ability to question current practices, evaluate and instigate change for the better.

  • Communication skills should include traditional and modern styles. Embracing the website, e-communication, twitter, facebook, and all social media will be of great help

  • An eye for detail and proven track record in improving performance in golf and hospitality operations.

  • Working towards or willing to engage with a recognised golf management program such as the Club Manager Association of Europe (CMAE) or Golf Club Managers Association (GCMA)

Specific responsibilities Society and Corporate Golf

  • Organise and follow through with all society bookings.

  • Follow up emails and phone calls to aid retention for following years.

  • Follow up past leads from golf societies not re-booked

  • Follow up golf days that currently go elsewhere

  • Engage with local clubs who have golf days e.g. tennis/football clubs etc.

  • Engage with local businesses that hold annual golf days

  • Engage with other golf clubs re. their team away days

  • Market society packages to region and national audiences via social media/ magazine/ newspapers etc.

  • Ensure our course is listed/ known about in large local companies who hold golf days/meet- ings.

  • Liaise with local hotels and introduce stay and play packages with the Marriott and Village hotels

  • Work with 59 club to ensure that processes are in place to deliver exceptional customer service and make recommendations to the Club Manager on recommended changes.

Competitions

  • Set-up all competitions in conjunction with the sections of the club onto the system (Intelli- gent Golf) accurately in accordance to the competition calendar including the ladies, sen- iors and junior competitions

  • Set-up and administer club knockout competitions. Produces draw sheet, queries on match arrangements etc.

  • Set up and administer champagne golf and Wednesday Cup competitions

  • Market club competitions to its members through a variety of channels

  • Work with and assist the professional shop to process all scorecards and results for all club competitions

  • Add all results to the news section of the website and promote via social media where re- quired

  • Market open day competitions to regional and national audiences

  • Organise team match fixtures with the aid of the relevant captains

  • Produce and supply fixture lists to Radyr members in conjunction with the handicapping and competitions committee

  • Distribute the takings of all competition results of all club competitions in partnership with the Administration and Accounts Manager.

  • Manage members handicaps and supplementary scores

  • Attend all competition and handicapping committee meetings

  • Administer and deliver all Club Open Days throughout the year

Marketing

  • Use a variety of modern and traditional methods to market Radyr Golf Club to a regional, national and international audience.

  • Market Radyr golf activities (competitions/team fixtures/results/large tee bookings) to the club members in an effective and timely manner

  • Automated email and survey system put in place to aid visitor retention and ensure soci- ety/corporate days are often engaged after the event

  • Marketing Radyr Golf Club opens to a wide audience. Possibility of extra open days when these become more popular. This includes members and guests.

  • Manage the Radyr golf club website content for all golf related matters.

  • With the Club Manager create and market society packages to encourage increased green fee income

Golf Course Bookings

  • Take responsibility for all golf course bookings/tee time administration for societies, corpo- rate days, charity days etc.

  • Manage team fixture bookings from other golf clubs (when we are a neutral venue)

  • Create and market (with approval from the relevant committee) society packages that will entice visiting golfers.

  • Ensure golf club members are fully aware of any large society bookings, team matches etc. expected on a given day

  • Record and review green fee performance vs target information.

  • Ensure visitors are able to book golf online at convenient times.

Membership

  • In partnership with the club office assist in the management of all membership enquir- ies, show rounds, attend membership meetings and liase with the club office on pay- ments etc.

  • Manage bookings for all reciprocal golf for the members of the club

Remuneration


A competitive salary of between £26,000 to £29,000 is being offered depending on the experience of the candidate. The club will also support the personal development of the successful candidate with additional training linked to the role of Golf Operations Manager
