Bristol & Clifton GC (B&C) is looking for an experienced General Manager, who has the demonstrable financial acumen, commercial knowledge, interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm to lead the Club.
B&C, founded in 1891, is one of the oldest Golf Clubs in the South-West. Situated just west of the City of Bristol, B&C is a beautiful, challenging parkland course, which has been host in recent years to many County and National championship events.
We are a thriving Members’ Club, with a waiting list for new members. The Club was incorporated as a Company in 2018. The Board of Directors work closely with the General Manager to develop and deliver the Club’s strategic plan.
Main Objectives:
The Board of Directors have exciting plans for the club and are now seeking an entrepreneurial business leader to drive this process for the benefit of the membership, optimizing the opportunities provided by our course, location, and clubhouse.
These skills need to be blended with a proven track record that bring together the different elements of club management to create a service-excellence culture and a one-team mentality.
Ø Executive responsibility and accountability for all aspects of the management of the Club, the Course, and its premises within the framework of the Club’s Business Plan, policies, procedures, and approved budgets.
Ø Based on the Vision & Overall Strategic Direction determined with the Board, lead the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan to deliver this vision.
Ø Ensure key milestones in the business plan are achieved.
Ø Deliver appropriate Management Information reporting, providing regular updates to the Board and the wider membership.
Ø Achieve high standards of performance from all staff by inspiring and motivating the teams.
Ø Bring industry best practice to all areas of the Club’s activities, playing a pivotal role in delivering the Club’s key operational, financial, and strategic goals.
Candidate Profile:
Ø Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a focus on working collaboratively and the ability to relate to people of all backgrounds.
Ø Strong financial literacy and excellent IT system skills.
Ø Strong commercial acumen with experience of growing revenue streams whilst controlling costs.
Ø An appreciation of golf, and of the expectations and traditions of a members’ club as well as a track record of leading a successful change programme in a similar type of environment.
Ø A flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the position, with the ability to work under pressure.
Ø The ability to inspire a culture of service excellence for both members and visitors.
Ø Up to date knowledge of employment law, licensing law, HSE and other regulations, applicable to club management and small companies.
Ø Some greenkeeping knowledge that enables effective supervision of golf course operations - (desirable but not essential)
Ø A sound knowledge of the Rules of Golf and the CONGU Unified Handicapping System would also be desirable.
Ø A University/College/PGA recognized qualification and / or CMAE MDP qualification would be beneficial but not essential. Support for CPD is available.
